Reiki in Hospital

Posted by on Jun 28, 2014

I spent some of this week providing Reiki sessions to children and parents on wards at the Royal Alexandra hospital. Hospitals are by default, stressful environments, but the wisdom of the doctors who have seen the benefits of Reiki and given time to volunteer practitioners to allow the service on the wards is to be applauded. Reiki is soothing, comforting and provides connection and reassurance. It is a healing practice, and though this is not emphasised in the hospital setting, its relaxation properties are wonderful to observe. Babies’ hearts rates slow, children drift off to sleep, parents allow themselves a moment to unwind and and generally Reiki allows an...

Flow

Posted by on Jun 20, 2014

I recently began reading ‘Ask and it is Given’ by Esther and Jerry Hicks which is one of the big Law of Attraction books, that along with the film ‘ The Secret’, garnered a lot of attention in terms of creating, or manifesting our own reality through the power of our thoughts, or more importantly, the feeling vibrations we send out, which then attract similar vibrations to us. Not all of the book was for me, but there were some particular points that I really liked.  EFT is based on the clearing of energy blocks, or disruptions, to regain a smooth flow of energy around our bodies, which leaves us healthy emotionally and physically and a very salient point that...

Vitality

Posted by on Apr 1, 2014

I recently watched a talk about depression and the person giving it concluded that the opposite of depression was not happiness, but vitality. He also spoke about how his depression followed a series of loses, as depression so often does, and about how the innate risk in loving or gaining anything, is to later lose it. And this got me thinking about how, so often once our material comfort begins to improve and our relationships flourish, if we’re not careful, we can begin to depend on these external events for our happiness, to want to cling onto them and control them in order to make sure we do not lose them. This isn’t a personal fault, it’s a...

Horizon and the Placebo Effect

Posted by on Mar 12, 2014

Last month Horizon screened an incredible documentary about the placebo effect.  In the programme they outlined how taking a non-active agent can trigger responses within the body that turn on the body’s own ability to self-heal. I’ve written about this before as it is such a clear example of the power of our minds to effect real physiological changes within our bodies. And incredibly, they found that even patients who knew the pills were placebos had positive results.  Taking the pill may have acted as a psychological signal to the body that it was time to begin healing, allowing it to start on its own pathway to natural health. There was also a segment...

EFT at Kids Company

Posted by on Jan 7, 2014

Kids Company is an amazing charity that supports vulnerable and at risk children in London. It is wonderful to see that they now provide EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) to the children that use their services. It used to be a little known and rather obscure technique, but its effectiveness has gained it well deserved recognition over the last few years. EFT is such a great, simple technique for working with trauma and anxiety, and it heartens me that it is now so much more widely...
