Living Inside Out

Posted by on May 22, 2016

Getting really excited about this concept of living inside out. There is so much power and truth in it, that we’re always and forever okay at our core and it’s really just our thoughts that lead us away from this realisation. This leads to a wonderful remembering of who we are. This approach stems from Sydney Banks’ Three Principles work which I’ve been reading a lot about recently. The ultimate aim is to ‘gently tap you on the shoulder and remind you of your true nature’. And through this alone, great healing and release can emerge. They see thoughts going through our minds as inevitable, but our point of power is whether we choose...

Why Reiki in Hospitals?

Posted by on Dec 18, 2015

I’ve been providing Reiki on the wards of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital for two years now. It hasn’t always been easy, but it is by far one of the most rewarding thing I have ever done, and a continuous privilege to spend time with the children, families and medical staff I meet there. Sometimes a practice like Reiki on hospital wards can raise controversy: why is this ‘unscientific’ practice being allowed in a medical environment? Flutes and peas I once heard a metaphor about how we can think of ourselves as flutes designed to be open and clear and have life flow through us in order to create beautiful music. However, our thoughts and emotions from the past can become trapped within us and act as peas within that flute, blocking it up and preventing it from being played to its fullest potential. The question is, how do we get rid of our peas? Shutting down our hearts It can be easy to set conditions for our happiness, and decide that if these are not met we need to shut down our hearts with regards to a particular person or situation. Unfortunately the suffering caused by this action is mostly...

A Stroke of Insight

Posted by on Feb 21, 2015

I recently read a book by Jill Bolte Taylor, a brain scientist who experienced the results of a stroke that incapacitated almost the entire left side of her brain. Most people are aware that our left and right brains carry out very different functions, the left keeps time, makes comparisons, judges, categorises and labels. It contains our to do lists, our recollection of past and our future and also gives us our capacity for skills like language and mathematics. It provides us with a perception of our boundaries and a sense of who we are in the world, our name, age, occupation and our standing in society.     It was these analytical and ego functions that Jill...

Three therapy techniques to free you from troubling thoughts

Posted by on Dec 29, 2014

Ever get a thought in your head that won’t go away and makes you feel terrible?  You and the rest of the world!  Here are quick three techniques that can help: 1. The Switcherooney This is a very eye opening technique to help you gain clarity and insight on a situation or relationship that you have a complaint about.  First of all put the name of the person you want to address at the top of the paper,  someone you feel has done you wrong or you feel should have behaved differently.  Then, in as much detail as you like, and using as colourful language as you like, address them, listing all their wrongdoings, their faults, and unleashing all the criticism you...
