Horizon and the Placebo Effect

Posted by on Mar 12, 2014

Last month Horizon screened an incredible documentary about the placebo effect.  In the programme they outlined how taking a non-active agent can trigger responses within the body that turn on the body’s own ability to self-heal. I’ve written about this before as it is such a clear example of the power of our minds to effect real physiological changes within our bodies. And incredibly, they found that even patients who knew the pills were placebos had positive results.  Taking the pill may have acted as a psychological signal to the body that it was time to begin healing, allowing it to start on its own pathway to natural health. There was also a segment...

EFT at Kids Company

Posted by on Jan 7, 2014

Kids Company is an amazing charity that supports vulnerable and at risk children in London. It is wonderful to see that they now provide EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) to the children that use their services. It used to be a little known and rather obscure technique, but its effectiveness has gained it well deserved recognition over the last few years. EFT is such a great, simple technique for working with trauma and anxiety, and it heartens me that it is now so much more widely...

Volunteering at The Royal Alexandra Hospital For Children, Brighton

Posted by on Dec 28, 2013

So happy and excited! In January 2014 I start working as a volunteer therapist on the High Dependency Unit of the Royal Alexandra’s Children’s Hospital, providing Reiki to children, parents and staff on the ward. Working therapeutically in hospitals has been one of my long-term goals, so I am overwhelmed at the chance to be able to take part in this great project. The volunteers are coordinated by a great organisation called Active Lightworks. They interview and vet all therapists in addition to the checks and training provided by the hospital itself. I can’t wait to...

I’ve written in the past about how EFT and the writings of Eckhart Tolle go so well together. It’s heartening to see a recent post on the EFT website recognising the same connection – Read it here. (PS you have to click on ‘Read More’ to access the links)

Release from the Past

Posted by on Oct 15, 2013

Working with different therapies, it often strikes me that all of them are really aimed at pretty much the same thing – release from the thoughts and blocks created in the past in order to be fully present and allow our natural state to shine through. This is a state of peace, happiness, health and a sense of wholeness and connection. Every book I read and every technique I learn really has this at its core and I find this consistency reassuring. Life will always throw challenges up; that is the nature of the world. But the more we can allow things to come, be experienced fully and then let go, without hanging on, the easier life will be. The problems start when this...

Letting Go – Walking the Walk

Posted by on Oct 5, 2013

Loss is one of the biggest causes of depression. Fear of loss, one of the biggest causes of anxiety. And yet the world we see, our circumstances and the people around us change and shift constantly, so we have to adapt and allow things to come, but also to go. Flexibility in life is one of the keystones to mental health, and letting go fits right into that. I had occasion recently to test my own skills and ability in this area. I had to let go, but I didn’t want to, and more importantly, when the final moment came, I didn’t know how. So I did my EFT tapping. I did the work I knew I needed to do. Using visualisation and self hypnosis, I set clear goals for...
